The Grammys 2017
Each year starts with a gazillion Awards shows, where most talented people in their respective professions are recognised for their inspiring works in the last year, closely scrutinized by a group of respectable experts in a jury, and in some cases- the people. Not all of the awards have equal significance and/or star power. The Academy Awards, The Emmys and The Grammys are what others aspire to be. With "supposedly" unbiased juries and tremendous star power, these events are anticipated each year by music/TV/movie aficionados. I being all of the three, take a good amount of interest in all the nominations, winners and of course the red carpet.
Last year when Beyoncé released lemonade, her 6th studio album I realised it was going to be an acquired taste for me. The huge praises by critics, people and contemporaries did not resonate with me and I was right. Over the time, the tracks grew on me and so it did on my dear friend who all but maintained that Adele is the act to match for anyone in the 21st century. We placed our tiny cute bets and waited for the Grammys to judge our patronage- Lemonade vs 25, Beyoncé vs Adele.
Talking about Adele and 25, she sure is one of the greatest. Some of her past songs had rocked me to my core once. The primary single- hello was massive hit by any standards. And I loved it, still do. But other than that very few of her songs resonate well with me. I confess, partly its because of lack of trying. I didn't gave 25 the same chance to grow on me like I did to lemonade. But mostly because I stay away from too much of heart break and sadness in music. And Adele is all about that.
So the Grammys came and I realised Adele swept the floor. Taking away all the categories she was awarded for, including the biggies where she was tied up with Queen Bey. I was disappointed and somewhat startled. Well!! thank fully the bet was no longer in its place anymore but it must have been a really happy day for my friend. Towards the evening I realised that Adele dedicated her win to Beyoncé. That sounds good. But still its her who will be going home with 5 Grammys.
My disappointment didn't last long. Adele is a mighty singer and 25 was a brilliant piece of art, according to what I have heard. And primarily its the same jury that has awarded Beyoncé 22 Grammys till now. So there is no scope of partiality here. But mostly cuz Its ultimately good art works that should win, and good artists.
Now I'm waiting for my sweet Latina's next album, Shakira. Melanie Martinez will be supposedly releasing a new album in 2017. And there's some rumours about Mother Monster- GaGa releasing something new in 2017 as well. So fingers crossed, cant wait for some more brilliant music to Dance and cry too.
