Darkness Within: The Grand Deceit

This is 5th and final episode of the fiction- Darkness Within, pls read the first 4 episodes before reading any further if u haven't already.

Last night was tough. Talking to Leo was intense for Sabrina. She had no idea how fraudulent every facet of her friend Avantika was. She couldn't sleep all night. Thinking about everything that has happened, hoping for it to get over soon enough. What she didn't knew was this was the lucky day.

At sharp 10 the phone rang, Sabrina dare not pick up the phone once again, like the last day. It ran a full 11 rings and peace returned to the living room, but alas! it started again. Sabrina grew anxious with each passing ring. She finally decided to face the unknown. Picking up the phone and bringing it to ears felt like too much of work for her, her heart was pacing while her mind was lost in all the possibilities of what might be in the call. A faint Hello was all she could utter....

"Hello Ms Sabrina, Ajay Maakan here. I hope you remember me." Sabrina was at the loss of words, She had no idea what to say.
"Hello!! Are you still there??" he asked.
"Yes I am, How did you know I was here?" She whispered in fear, of the real and of the subconscious.
"Oh Come on! Sabrina we always knew you were there. Indian Intelligence is not that bad Dear."
"If you knew I was here, why didn't you come arrest me, after the bank incident." She inquired.
"Arrest you for what, Child. You were innocent all along. We knew that. The bank incident was a misunderstanding. We were alerted about the account holder, we rushed to find your friend Avantika there and instead saw you in the CCTV footages. Kudos BTW, you are smarter than you let people know."
"With all due respect sir, What is the purpose of your call?" asked an annoyed Sabrina.
"Yes, coming back to the order of the day, you might want to switch on your TV and watch some news my dear, its your lucky day. And after that you are free to go wherever you want without any fear and the head held high. Good Luck with ur life, Hope to never see you again and sorry for all the inconvenience we have caused you so far." A beep and white noise followed.

Sabrina ran to find the remote and switched on the TV and turned to a news channel immediately.

"CBI is finally closing the chapter on the Vandana treason case today. The are holding a press conference right now. According to our sources, International Arms Dealer Federico Lazarev was captured trying to flee from Delhi International Airport last night. He has not only pleaded guilty but has also proven valuable in many scams that have hit the army in the last decades. Further the CEO of Vandana enterprises has been released today morning on the account of him been proven innocent in the case. His properties and accounts has been released and his company's license renewed. We will stay in touch with our sources for further information....."

Sabrina was confused but happy. at the minimum her life's back to normal again. She ran to the closets and started packing her bags. Her cheap sub-urban flat was calling and maybe a new job. She was very happy. In a couple of hours har bag was packed, and she ready to leave but there was one last business remaining. She called a cab, put her bags in and took a detour to a location she was very eager to visit.

A posh apartment building, into the lift and on the 22nd floor, she went and stood right outside apartment 22D. The door was open. She walked in with light foot, but there seemed to be no one. Pin drop silence while all the doors and windows were open, gushing winds made the drapes fly inwards, it was bright sunny day out and a person sitting on the balcony was sipping coffee. It was Mohit Jain, the CEO. She walked towards the balcony. Mohit looked at her and smiled. He had bruises all over his face and a black eye, but to her he looked as amazing as the day he hired her.

"Was it painful?" She asked.
"It was adventurous." he replied with a chuckle.
"You are such a glass half full kind of guy.... I missed you" she said.
" So did I. But it was all worth it" he replied.

So heres the grand deceit for you.
Sabrina and Mohit were not just friends and colleagues, they loved each other. Love at first sight happened when Sabrina first interviewed for the position and Mohit was the interviewer. But at that time Mohit was dating Avantika, her fiancé and associate director of Vandana Enterprise. Both Sabrina and Avantika were becoming good friends then. One fine day Mohit realised Avantika is importing small amounts of sub par parts and siphoning off the money to her offshore accounts, So Mohit confronted her and fired her, but owing to their family's closeness he did not report to the police. Soon the Italian Mafia reached out to Mohit in secret and presented him with the amazing business prospects he was doing earlier with Avantika, while Mohit and Sabrina's love was blooming under the covers. That's till Avantika found out about them and vouched to revenge them. She weaved a complex web of lies by using her influence at Vandana and using Sabrina's ids to create a plot against her, and then reporting this business to CBI. They were informed about impending raids by a friend at CBI, that's when Sabrina and Mohit got together to make a plan. Sabrina created a jaw dropping action plan to fend off any charges and frame Avantika with everything. This not only calmed a frantic Mohit down but also strengthened their love. They knew they would be separated from each other for quite some time, in order to prevent the authorities getting suspicious. The Italian mafia when learned about Avantika's deceit, he lured her into Italy with talks of new business ventures and sine then she has been missing, while CBI thinks she fled the country, making their suspicions of her only stronger. And ultimately they pinned her and her boyfriend with everything.

Surprised??? So am I.

"Will Leo be fine?", asked Sabrina.
"Oh don't worry. He is more than happy that he no longer can be hunted down by the Italian drug lords", replied a rather exhausted Mohit.
"So whats next?"
Mohit replied, "I don't know about you but I'm in a desperate need of vacation", and he hands over a pamphlet of Hawaii. The beaches, drinks, and massages was exactly they needed right now.
"Will u join me, Sabrina Kumar?" asked Mohit with a romantic smile, to which she replied- "Yes"
