Are you celebrating International Happiness Day?

What comes to mind when I say happiness? Some people find it in love, some family, fame, career etc. Wikipedia says - In philosophy, happiness is translated from the Greek concept of eudaimonia, and refers to the good life, or flourishing, as opposed to an emotion. In psychology, happiness is a mental or emotional state of well-being which can be defined by, among others, positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy. Happy mental states may reflect judgements by a person about their overall well-being. For me happiness is a stable professional life and being close to my family and my "friends" and music. And Im sure my friend who asked me to write about Happiness finds joy in annoying the shit out of people around her. :p

Theres a huge writers block in my head right now because I'm not in the best of minds currently so let me ask you this- Whats unhappiness? Sadness as one calls it is an emotional pain associated with, or characterized by, feelings of disadvantage, loss, despair, grief, helplessness, disappointment and sorrow.

A great number of things that can make a person unhappy. Ranging from unsatisfactory career to any kind of personal issues. For me its loneliness last few years. I clearly need a new set of friends I guess. :D The extreme of unhappiness is Depression and then there are some people wired differntly which makes them susceptible. The point is its a sub concious battle in a mind which fluctuates with time and the events happening around that is affecting one self. on that note let me tell u a story.
Once upon a time here was a king who was terribly saddened due to events in his kingdom and personal life. He formed a group of his wisest ministers and asked them to create a ring that would help him in this condition. The ministers created a ring which was inscribed with words- This too shall pass. This message helped the mighty king greatly. :) To all those great people struggling with their lives, I say- All such events pass away or one finds ways to live with it, and one would soon find new reasons to be happy and sad about. Just dont give up. It might be too much at times but struggle through, Life is far too precious if you know what I mean.

Someone great thought of this- Life isn't about waiting for the storm too pass. Its about learning to dance in the rain. It aptly encapsulates the 21st century life where struggle never ends. One has to learn to live, learn, struggle and enjoy at the same time.

Coming back to topic at hand, often one finds need to seek happiness in day to day life, in pets, children, music, money, hobbies and one should. If you think about it, from princes to pauppers, everyone is struggling with there own set of issues. Seeking happiness helps especially when u think 20 to 50 % of the population has suffered through depression at some point of time. (source)

A Painting by Dr. Akshata Bansude
So 20th of march is called as International Day of Happiness. Started by Jayme Illien in the UN, it is aimed at awareness and education regarding happiness in life. Pain is everywhere, so what could one do to overcome it? Well!! I'm no expert but I have learnt that sadness always decreases with sharing. Share it with ur trusted friends, family members etc, doesn't matters if that person can do anything about it, just make sure u can trust them with ur privacy and that they wont judge you. If none of these work you can always start up a blog and rant about things like I do. :p You can always seek a psychologist or a psychiatrist's help. Happiness is there, its a little overrated though, but you can seek it.

For an article on Happiness, I know this is awfully dark but it rather reflects the state of my mind right now. If you are reading this and want to converse with me reagarding anything that is making you miserable, email me at Jha.abhishekkumar@yahoo.com. I am a 24 years old Doctor and I'm more than eager to help you out, within my capacity.

Heres a video of calligraphy that my friend and blogger Dr. Anjum finally finished at 11th hour midnight literally, but will be a delight for the Potterheads...
