The Power of Fame in Business!!
After Kylie Jenner, a 22 year old girl with no specific talent (at-all) made news all over the planet for being the world's youngest billionaire, the power of well managed Business and exclusive Endorsements was demonstrated. Kylie Jenner, from the bedroom of her Calabasas home, California, promoting through her Instagram profile, at no cost basically, created one of the most in-demand skin-care line for young women. Coupled with a single exclusive endorsement deal, one of the most expensive deals in fact, with Adidas, made her a billionaire at the age of 22. Compared to that Jay-Z, one of the most prolific artist of our time, became a billionaire only by the age of 49 years. And only a handful of artists have ever achieved that size of financial success in human history.
This realization has lead to a frenzy of pop artists entering business for themselves. First came Rihanna with her well-selling line of Fenty Beauty products, with the niche of making cosmetics for all complexion and using the most melanin heavy, diastema positive models (LOL), as a first for a critically praised ad campaign. Mind you, these aren't endorsements. Just like Kylie, Rihanna owns the brand, copyrights etc which makes her a proper businesswoman. In no time she dethroned Beyoncé as the richest black woman in music, with a net worth that swelled to 650 Million USD despite the fact that she hasn't released an album in years.
Then came our very own Kareena Kapoor Khan, who did an exclusive line with Lakme. Not bold enough but still counts.
In no time Our Queen Bey took notice, she herself is not new to business at all but all of it has been secondary to her music career. Well!!! Not any more. She is using her own label Ivy Park, partnered with Adidas, to design a line of sports shoes herself. Its just a beginning and could extend to apparels etc in no time. The partnership is bound to get huge returns and all those will go to Beyoncé's giant wallet, as its not an endorsement, its her own business, i.e. she is the Boss!!!
And finally today morning I read, the ultimate fashion queen Lady Gaga entered the business of covering your skin with paints i.e. make-up. Her own business, her own products, not an endorsement! To be called 'Haus Laboratories', in line with her initial band name, during her Fame and Fame Monster Era- 'The Haus of Gaga'. Her line will be sold exclusively on Amazon, initially in 9 countries, including the US, UK and Japan. So its a go for our business Divas. In time we will be able to tell how many of this business ventures turn out to be robust money makers and turn these queens into Billionaires.
