Darkness Within: The Deception

This is the 3rd episode of the fiction- Darkness within, pls read the first 2 episodes before reading any further if you haven't already.

Avantika was a good friend. She was diametrically opposite of Sabrina but the two complemented each other very well. Avantika, a real Delhite, was outspoken, extrovert, night owl, disco freak, bold and gorgeous. Sabrina was precisely inverse. While Sabrina often helped her stay on ground and not getting knocked up by 4 guys when she is drunk, Avantika helped her open up and enjoy the life as it is. Of Avantika's many boyfriends, Sabrina liked a few, hated some but was scared of one.

Missing her friend for so long and not hearing from her, Sabrina hopped on a bus and reached her apartment. Several newspapers, magazines and letters lying around, it looked like either she fired another maid or she has left for a vacation or something. She knocked several times and a reluctant old man opened the door "Madam nahi hai, baad mein aana." She inquired further and learned she went to Europe with some guy few nights back. The door slammed shut on her face. Must be that foreigner boyfriend whom she does not likes, she thought to herself. She was about to leave when something caught her eye. It was an envelope from UBS Switzerland, the ultra rich people's Bank. Avantika was rich but UBS rich??? She had no idea. Out of curiosity she picked it up and looked around if anyones looking, and carefully opened it. Woah!! Millions of Dollars of transactions and the final one was a transfer to Bahamas worth 3.5 million USD after which nothing was left in the account. It was done on the same day as her arrest.

But that was not to be the weirdest thing on that piece of paper. Scrolling around, she realized it was not addressed to Avantika at all. It was addressed to a Sabrina Kumar, herself?????????????? Sabrina never had a UBS account, why would she!! She had no money to put in. Was Avantika misusing her identity for some kind of illegal business. The letter after all had her address but Sabrina's name on it. If its so, she never saw it coming, it was a deceit beyond her imaginations. Having no idea how to deal with this- should she report to the police, maybe the Tax Department itself. Or should she keep it to herself in case it might land her in more trouble!!!

After a good hard thinking at a restaurent nearby, a shaken Sabrina decided to investigate. She was in South Delhi and she knew that UBS has a massive branch there. Nothings going to stop her now. She marched to the nearest metro station and within few minutes she was standing in front of the towering structure. She went in and realised it looked more like a 5 star hotel than a bank and she knew why, she giggled inside. A good looking lady greeted her on the desk and asked how may she help her. A confused Sabrina looked at her and said- I need to make a deposit to my account and she handed over that letter. The Lady asked her for some identity proof and the driving license it was. Since that's the only ID Sabrina ever looked good in, it was the only one she used, everywhere. Checking in her computer, she smiled and ask, how much are you depositing today Miss Sabrina Kumar?? A poor Sabrina looked in her purse and hesitatingly said " r-r-rs. 2000." The women gave a perplexed look and said- Excuse me!! I have something to discuss with my superiors, I will be back in a minute, and she walked away inside.

Sabrina felt so stupid. That was a bad plan. 2000 Rs??? At a UBS Branch??? She should have rather said withdrawl. But whats done is done. Theres no one around, so Sabrina quickly walked behind the desk and looked at the computer. Her account details were open and she was flabbergasted to see all her correct details there- from her license, passport to her Aadhar and everything. The account was opened in 2014, a year after she moved to Delhi. There were pages and pages of history and transactions and while she tried to make some sense of it, the front desk phone rang, and the LED display on it said A. Maakan..............

She was so astonished. What the hell is happening??? She decided to pick and see whats going on. Hh-hh-Hello. To which clearly Ajay Maakan's voice replied- 'Good job texting me immediately. Now stall that girl for some time, I'm sending the forces over right now.' He thought he was talking to the receptionist. Poor Sabrina had sweat squirting all over her body. She now realised what a bad move coming here was. What should she do now. Be an honest criminal and wait or be a good one and run!!! An id and ego rumble inside her head, and her conscience cried at her- RUN, SABRINA, RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sabrina slowly walked away from the desk. Casually. Out of the Central lobby, towards the main entrance, Out of it, towards the road and on and on and on, She kept walking. She heard several vans with police siren reaching the UBS. She walked faster now, along the roads. No Metros or busses for now, nothing with CCTV cameras in it, thought Sabrina. And she kept walking....

Her home was no longer safe. Cuz that would be their next stop if they were planning to arrest her. What else was an option???? How about Avantika's apartment!!! She quickly cooked up a strategy and got on an auto rickshaw and went off towards her apartment.

That's all for now in Sabrina's dangerous journey. Will be back soon with more.
