The Grammys 2017

Image
Each year starts with a gazillion Awards shows, where most talented people in their respective professions are recognised for their inspiring works in the last year, closely scrutinized by a group of respectable experts in a jury, and in some cases- the people. Not all of the awards have equal significance and/or star power. The Academy Awards, The Emmys and The Grammys are what others aspire to be. With "supposedly" unbiased juries and tremendous star power, these events are anticipated each year by music/TV/movie aficionados. I being all of the three, take a good amount of interest in all the nominations, winners and of course the red carpet. Last year when Beyoncé released lemonade, her 6th studio album I realised it was going to be an acquired taste for me. The huge praises by critics, people and contemporaries did not resonate with me and I was right. Over the time, the tracks grew on me and so it did on my dear friend who all but maintained that Adele is the act ...

My new found obsession with APPLE!!!

Image
We all have seen them. We all quite know it. There is no single tech firm alive that produces gadgets as cool and good looking as Apple. This statement holds true about macs and iPads. As far as iPhone goes, ever since the Chinese corps got there eyes on it, not so much. On an unrelated note the first cloned animal was Dolly- the sheep :p Now in India, Apple has a market share of 2% amongst smartphones, lower in case of laptops. These low figures can be easily attributed to the staggering prices of its products. But because of ever improving income and lifestyle, the numbers are increasing and the firm is very positive about its future here. There are a lot of people who hate Apple for unnecessarily pricing its products so high, keeping the profit margins so massive that others can only dream about it and hence the products beyond the reach of a common man. What they fail to understand is that its a marketing strategy to make its produ...

The future of Arranged Marriage

Image
Marriage is the best and biggest of all family festivities, where families, distant relatives, friends and co-workers all come together to celebrate the union of two people in love for eternity(hopefully). Its quite known all over the world that in my country India, parents have more then just a say in the selection of bride/groom for their sons/daughters. To be precise- Arranged Marriage. Since my sister is getting married soon, it seems like a perfect topic to write an article upon. To many in various corners of the world, arranged marriage is not a human behaviour exclusive to India. Until recently, almost all civilizations and societies, especially the upper social class have been using this method to find the perfect partners for their children. From the royals to the commoners. Remember Rose and Hockley in Titanic?? My point is, as India modernizes day by day, its becoming more and more western in almost every aspect. With young adults real...

Egotistic Cafe Coffee Day manager messed with the WRONG person...

Image
On a wonderful warm sunny afternoon, We went to a popular café for coffee and snacks. Located in one of the posh areas of the city, foreigners and Ferrari owners(metaphorically) were regular customers over there. Me being neither was apparently a pain in the bum the manager could not get over. Stereotyping our own people as inferior over outsiders is still a common site in my country. Well just so you know, it was not a one time thing with that café manager. Few weeks back when we guys went for snacks, my food was not served for quite some time. So I went up to the counter and enquired for the same and was met with a rude and loud answer - Sir you will get your food when it is ready. It did not feel good but I didn't say anything. I succumbed to my tolerance as usual. 3 guys- including me, returned to the café once again. We ordered the food and beverages as usual and I advised my friend- who was paying for us all against making any payments in change. Smaller denominations...

My Currency Catastrophy...

It was 2010. Most unfortunate things happened to me in this year. You might remember I used to stay away into the main city, for my 11th and 12th grade studies, our car chauffer would often drive me to my school on Mondays or during exam period. One such day I was in a great hurry to reach my school. The car was waiting for me and my dad asked me to take some cash from my mom in order to get some fuel for the car on the way. I ran to my mother, being busy she just directed me to her purse which would usually lie in the cupboard in her bedroom. In a great hurry I reached for the purse and grabbed the first four-five hundred rupees notes kept together totalling to two thousand. I left in a rush without a clue of what was about to happen. An hour past we reached a big Petrol Pump in the city. I asked the employee to fuel up my car with 2000 Rs worth of petrol. He did the same, I reached for my wallet and paid him the money, he looked at the currency carefully as is custom...

A true near death experience

Image
THE INCIDENT It was a Saturday evening, when i finished my private Physics tution and walked to the main roads to hire an auto rickshaw. The story is five years old, when I was 17 and a student in 11th standard/grade. I was doing my plus twos(11th and 12th grade) studies from a popular school in the main city area, which was 45 kms away from my home. So me and my friends had this arrangement where we had a small flat in the main city very close to our new school and on weekends we would take a short hour ride to our home and stay there till the Monday morning when we journey back to the city. Without a doubt we were always eager for Saturday or any school holidays to travel back home and eat good food, spend time with family and my precious TV, watching Doraemon all the time. (LOL!! Right!) An Auto Rickshaw Evening is a rush hour on the roads of the city, Dhanbad, if any one is interested. All the auto rickshaws just passed by without stopping because ...

To have or Not to have a Pet

Image
I bought a brand new Dell Keyboard today and I was so excited to check it out, but had no idea what to write. So here's something that everybody loves- Puppies. Ever since my childhood it has been my dream to have a pet of my own and dogs are my biggest fantasy. My parents were never pet persons so we never had any animal at home. Since I moved out 3 years ago I have always thought about it. Some two years back I made up my mind and got myself a tiny little fish bowl. It made me so happy. Over time I have upgraded it to a small planted aquarium with a few neon tetras and shrimps. But there is some reservations to call tiny little fishes my pets. First they are very tiny. Second they are not intelligent enough to understand me as their "hooman" . Third they do not response back with love and affection. Fourth their life spans are often very short. So you see fishes and aqua scaping are amazing hobbies but that's just it- a ho...
