So I started watching this amazing sitcom called '2 Broke Girls' for the lack of any other thing to watch and I very soon fell in love with the characters. The title refers to 2 poor women called Max Black and Caroline Channing, the lead persona brought to life by Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs. While Max Black is a hardy girl with no hope, expectation or optimism about her future or life in general, due to her traumatic childhood, no father and an alcoholic mother who did not care, Caroline Channing on the other hand is a rich, spoilt, brought up like a princess, daughter of a disgraced billionaire called Martin Channing who lost his Billions after the government found out about his Ponzy scheme of loot and put him behind bars forever. Hence Caroline is left with nothing, no money, no friends, no home and is forced to streets and work as a waitress at a 3rd class diner at minimum wage, where she meets Max Black. The story depicts a comical journey of two ghastly different women coming together, become best of friends, and survive through the worst of times, being each other's strength, coming out triumphant at the end with hard work and business drive.
There are other hysterical characters like Sophie Kacznski, played by Jennifer Coolidge, a polish woman in her fourties with a massive sexual appetite and incredibly low standards. Everything from her costumes and accent to her hilarious stories from Poland is in itself enough to make you watch the show. Her male counterpart is Oleg, an Ukranian immigrant played by Jonathan Kite. He is a cook at the aforementioned diner, well a disgusting person with next to none cooking knowledge and always hands down his pants kinda man. Now you can see how madly they fall in love when Oleg meets Sophie. Theres a tiny little Asian owner of the diner called Han Lee, played by Matthew Moy who always becomes the target of Max's bullying for his size, look, clothes, sexuality and everything else you can imagine and Max keeps coming up with new and interesting ways to bully him. Theres also an old Afro-American cashier called Earl, played by Garrette Moris who has very interesting and well thought points to make. As you can see this show runs strong on diversity and race.
Apart from this regular characters there has been a long list of celebrities who have made guest appearance on the show like Martha Stewart, Kim Kardashian, Lindsay Lohan, Piers Morgan, Victoria's Angels Lily Aldridge and Martha Hunt. A lot of people think this show is too repetitive or too feminine but I happen to have loved the concept, story line and jokes. Its my third favourite Comedy show after The Big Bang Theory and Modern Family. Well it has run six glorious seasons long and finally has come to an end this Summer. I first read about it on Beth's Instagram Post and my jaw dropped with shock. Wikipedia says- "The series was canceled after six seasons on May 12, 2017. A combination of factors, including declining ratings, CBS's desire to have an ownership stake, and the network needing to clear space for three new sitcoms in the fall 2017 schedule, led to the show's demise."
It is said that every good thing must come to an end. After six years of laughing at their jokes, tearing up about their friendship and taking sides in their fights, I bid adieu to this amazingly talented cast of actors and writers in the hopes that I will soon see them in even better shows or movies. You were an incredible show and I will miss you- to the blessing that is laughter, Goodbye 2 broke girls.
