The Witches (1990)

As a little kid many years ago, I was scrolling through various channels on the TV in search of something interesting when I came across this amazing movie about witches that gave me nightmares later on. I could only watch half the movie and never knew the beginning or the end of the movie and I thought I must watch the whole movie some day. Since then it was out of sight, out of mind. This was at least 10 or 12 years old and guess what? This afternoon I was browsing through web and found an article about the best transformations of actors through make up in Hollywood and there it was, Anjelica Houston as the Grand Empress witch, which brought back that day and the horrid scene I saw. I googled and found out the movie is called 'The Witches' by Warner Brothers, released in 1990 and based upon Roald Dahl's novel of the same name. So there was no stopping me now. I searched on YouTube and found a few clips one of which was the whole movie. I took it all in and lived that day once again in my life. Its about a little boy and his grand ma who save all kids of England from those witches who planned to convert them all into mice, after that kid was already turned by them. Sounds childish but its worth watching. What I realised was Anjelica Houston has done immensely glamourous role for a movie from 1990. The make-up, acting and all was top notch and so was the whole movie. No wonders critics loved it so much back then. It also stars Rowan Atkinson aka Mr. Bean and Jim Carter aka Mr. Carson from Downton Abbey. It was a treat for the day, that's until I realised that the studio is interested in making a remake of the movie in 2017 and guess who is being anticipated to play The Grand Empress in the movie- None other then Jennifer Lopez. What an amazing delight if it happens!! The only other person I could see playing that character was Lady Gaga. Kabir Singh- A Doctor's Review

So I found time to watch the latest bollywood release- Kabir Singh with Shahid Kapoor and a few beautiful women I’m not bothered to learn the names of. After a long time, medical profession and live of doctors was the baseline for a very mainstream movie, the last one was Munna Bhai MBBS, and it was a wonderfully entertaining with great social message. So I had a lot of expectations. It was a remake of the south Indian movie Arjun Reddy and I’m not familiar with it at all. And lets just say, in spite of a watchable story line, it let me down in so many parameters, so many dimensions, it won’t be easy writing this. So first lets start with the good. Almost everyone of the cast member are great actors and it showed (other than the various beautiful romantic entanglements of Dr Kabir Singh, MS Orthopedics, thats why I’m not bothered to learn their names). Goodbye College!!!

So exactly 4 and a half years back I started the journey of my Graduation, 2000 kms away from home. With my admission to a Medical School, I was never more excited in my life. Those were the innocent days when I still believed in the power of men and the strength of oneself to conquer the world. I still do but with better understanding of the phrase "One's own Enemy." The abundantly fabled College life was not totally what I expected it to be. A myriad of failures, wins, heartbreaks and sleepless nights was what it was.
